John Mercer, Ph.D.

Professor John Mercer joined the Department of Kinesiology & Nutrition Sciences during the fall 1999 semester and teaches biomechanics courses within the undergraduate and graduate programs. Mercer earned his bachelor’s from Buffalo State University of New York, master’s from University of North Texas, and doctorate from the University of Oregon. Mercer’s research focuses on human locomotion and sport performance. In particular, Mercer has a focused line of research on biomechanical and physiological responses during locomotion. He also has a research focus on sport performance using wearable technology devices in the field. Mercer established the Biomechanics Laboratory at UNLV during 2002, is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine, Past-President of the Southwest Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine, and Chair of the University Biomedical Institutional Review Board.

Brooke Conway Kleven, PT, DPT, Ph.D.

Dr. Brooke Conway Kleven received her bachelor of science in exercise and sports science specializing in neuroscience from the University of San Francisco. She then completed both her doctor of physical therapy (DPT) and Ph.D. in epidemiology and biostatistics at UNLV, with her dissertation assessing the neuroepidemiology and chronic pathology of repetitive head injuries in professional athletes. She was the 2022 UNLV outstanding doctoral graduate and is currently a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, American College of Sports Medicine, and Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health.

Eric Sanchez

Eric is a serial entrepreneur whose life mission is to create, innovate, and leave the world a better place. He is currently the founder of X2L Bio—an AI platform that leverages wearable technology to support remote VO2 max assessments, to help refine Performance, FemTech, and Longevity. Prior to X2L, Eric was CEO of US Operations for Splendo Health, a Dutch Entity and Duke University biotech startup. Splendo’s solution was designed to democratize the ability to perform Cardiorespiratory Function (CRF)/VO2 max assessments outside of a clinical setting. Eric has over 18 years of experience as a serial entrepreneur developing and launching IoT, SaaS, wearable and biotech startups with successful exits. Eric’s corporate background in advertising and pharmaceuticals (NYC), as well as his knowledge and experience in developing products from concept to commercialization, provide him with a unique entrepreneurial background. Eric is a co-inventor with two patents, a speaker, and an advocate for health equity.
